Refugee Resettlement Programs
Support for programs that help in the resettlement of refugees in Minnesota
This federally-funded office works with federal, state and local partners to support the resettlement of refugees in Minnesota and provides a variety of coordinated whole-family services for people under humanitarian protection who have been in the U.S. less than five years.
It makes sure that newcomer families have their immediate and basic needs met so they can live in dignity and achieve their highest potential.
The Refugee Resettlement Programs office helps eligible individuals and families by:
* Ensuring that mainstream programs and community resources are accessible
* Providing assistance in finding employment
* Long-term guidance and coaching to meet academic or career goals
* Adjusting to life in America through free classes on how to use public transit, how to help children prepare for college and many other topics
* Low-cost legal help and status change applications for permanent residency and citizenship

Community Health Workers reduce cultural and linguistic barriers to health care for refugees and immigrants. They serve as liaisons between underserved populations and the health care and social systems in Rochester, Kasson/Byron, and Austin/Albert Lea communities.
Community Health Workers:
* Assist individuals and families access to resources in the community including healthcare needs and food
* Provide health education about wellness and staying healthy and managing your chronic condition
* Help enroll individuals onto a health insurance plan
* Connect individuals to culturally appropriate health care services and resources
* Help individuals and families understand their health insurance policy and what it covers
* Provide individuals with informal counseling, support, and follow-up
* Help individuals understand and manage their health condition by developing strategies and habits to improve their health and well-being
* Provide referrals to community resources
* Coordinate care between different providers
This agency has Spanish, Somali, Bosnian, Vietnamese, and Arabic speaking staff in the office. IMAA also offers Language Services and able to support several other languages that are spoken in the community.

HUD-Approved Housing Counseling
Guidance to help you find, finance, maintain, rent or own a home. This counseling has been approved by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
Housing and Urban Development (HUD)-approved housing counseling is for consumers who are seeking, financing, maintaining, renting or owning a home. The sessions help consumers make responsible housing choices in light of their needs and financial situation. Housing counselors educate first-time home buyers about financing options. Counselors also help anyone who wants to (or already does) rent or own a home, to make their rent or mortgage payments and to be a responsible tenant or owner.
Counselors who provide this service are trained and approved by HUD.
