The Minnesota Department of Health lists hospitals that have different levels of services for people who are having or are recovering from a stroke. The designations are: * Comprehensive Stroke Center: This hospital has the personnel, infrastructure and expertise to diagnose and treat stroke patients who require intensive medical and surgical care, specialized tests or interventional therapies. * Thrombectomy Capable Stroke Centers * Primary Stroke Center: This hospital has the necessary staffing, infrastructure and programs to stabilize and treat most acute stroke patients. * Acute Stroke Ready Hospital: This hospital or 24/7 emergency center has the infrastructure and capability to care for acute stroke, including administration of intravenous thrombolytic therapy (also known as tissue plasminogen activator "tPA," or alteplase).
